2009 International Religious Freedom Report

On May 1, 2010 The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) will release the 2010 International Religious Freedom report at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC. The report that analyzes religious freedom country-by-country, highlights select countries in violation and at risk of violation of religious freedom, makes policy recommendations to the executive and legislative branches of government, and critiques the work of the State Department in promoting international religious freedom.

The above video was taken at a press conference upon the release of the 2009 International Religious Freedom report at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. In the video U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Michael Posner provide their remarks and answer questions from international press representatives.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom was created by the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 to monitor the status of freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief abroad, as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and related international instruments, and to give independent policy recommendations to the President, the Secretary of State, and the Congress.
