Dublin, Ireland - YLC International Conference 2010

Date: July 28th-August 1st, 2010
Where: Dublin, Ireland
Group: Young Leadership Council (YLC) - ICCJ, International Council of Christians and Jews

Event Description: Each year, the YLC hosts an international conference that brings together a group of carefully selected participants from diverse religious backgrounds and geographical locations. We are very excited to be hosting this year’s YLC Conference in Dublin, Ireland, 28 July to 1 Aug 2010.

The primary aim of this yearly conference is to meet, share and learn from and about each other. Participants experience what we call The Three E’s:

ENCOUNTER – Experiencing different faiths, beliefs, ideas and cultures through facilitated dialogue and visits to houses of worship
EXCHANGE – Improving intercultural knowledge and skills for a shrinking world through formal and informal sharing opportunities
EQUIP – Learning best practice to create grassroots interfaith activities back home, from experts and from each other

The conference aims to bring young leaders together to learn more about the different faith traditions, and to share best practice on how to foster interfaith dialogue and action in their home countries. We encourage this through many activities, including:

- Workshops led by experts in fields such as faith, interfaith and conflict resolution - Daily study of Muslim, Christian and Jewish texts - Visits to synagogues, churches and mosques - Cultural sharing evenings - Creative activities such as music, dance and theatre.

Application:
Participants have come from diverse regions including the UK and Ireland, the United States, Continental Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. For each conference, the YLC board is able to offer places to 30-40 participants.

After receiving recommendations and applications, the board carefully selects a group of delegates they believe will contribute beneficially to the Interfaith Dialogue process both at the conference and at home. The board also aims to select a diverse selection of religious backgrounds from each of the Abrahamic faith traditions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Due date for Application: April 15, 2009

Financial Support: In an effort to include a geographically, culturally, ethnically, and spiritually diverse group for our conference, the YLC has a limited fund available for financial assistance. Depending on need and experience, the YLC can offer up to €500 in order to cover travel expenses. We are also able to offer financial assistance towards the cost of the conference. In order to determine the most worthy recipients of these travel grants, we ask that anyone participating in the conference complete the following application and email it to us at ylcboard@gmail.com. The YLC will then reimburse our financial aid recipients at the conclusion of the conference upon receiving a one page summary of the experience or completed feedback form, a final budget of money spent and receipts from any travel and visa spending. We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing you at our conference this year.
