The Global Institute For Leadership & Civic Development is holding its 11th annual Global Leadership Program from July 1st-August 2nd, 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic. The four-week program is open to university students from around the world. To date, students from over 65 countries have participated in the program. The program incorporates university course, cultural activities, and community service. This year the institute is offering two separate programs with different themes: Foundations of Leadership, and Intercultural Understanding. The institute also offers similar 2-week programs in Rome, Monterrey, and Istanbul. According to their official website, the aim of the program is to provide youth with the resources and training “to become a global citizen, a future leader, and one of tomorrow’s great social innovators.”

Both programs in Prague offer “specially designed courses which focus on issues of global importance” which are both interactive and challenging. While the two programs offer different courses, all participants obtain an introduction to leadership through the required Philosophies of Leadership course. All participants are allowed to choose one elective from the course list to compliment their program. All course are taught in English and are fully accredited. Students earn 6 US semester (12 ECTS) credits for completing the program. Below is a diagram of the courses available for the two programs. The program in Prague offers an array of cultural activities that expose students to new cultures. Students work with members of the Czech community on service projects. All service projects challenge students to put the theoretical knowledge they learn in the classroom into practical use.

The program in Prague also offers several field trips including a visit to the Czech countryside for a team building retreat, and the former WWII concentration camp at Terezin.

Students in Prague will also have the opportunity to attend workshops and learn practical skills such as public speaking techniques, how to write business plans, and how to take the knowledge they learn during their stay and implement it through projects in their home communities

In addition to the university course, cultural activities, service projects, field trips, and workshops, the students will also get first-hand advice from various leaders in business, politics, education, and the public sector.

At the end of their four weeks, students are offered the opportunity to stay August 1st-15th, 2010 for an additional 3 US/6ECTS credit course; Social Entrepreneurship (Prague), Women and Leadership (Prague & Istanbul), and Comparative Legal Systems (Rome). Each course requires additional tuition.
