All life is interconnected and interdependent.
All share in the Universal bond of love.
Love begins with self acceptance and forgiveness.
With respect and compassion we embrace diversity.
Together we make a difference through love.” ~Global Love Day 2010
Have you ever wondered why so much of our global culture surrounds themes of love? From Italian opera, to Bollywood, to Western music and movies, even in the scriptures of the world’s major world religions, mankind is obsessed with love. But how is it that a lovesick world such as ours has so much pain and suffering? Could it be that we have forgotten values such as forgiveness, respect, and compassion that connect us all?
Whatever the reason may be, The Love Foundation (TLF) has been inspiring unconditional loving change for the past 10 years. A nonprofit organization out of Florida, The Love Foundation mission is to help expand the understanding and execution of unconditional love through education, research, and charitable programs. The organization strives to bring unconditional love back into our personal, family, community, and professional lives.
The Love Foundation is gearing up for a very special global annual event at the beginning of May. Already in its seventh year, Global Love Day takes place on May 1st, 2010. The theme for this year’s international celebration of humanity is “Love Begins With Me”. Global Love Day aims to make the love within our hearts the focus of our awareness throughout the day, unite humanity through love and compassion, and inspire unconditional love throughout the year.
Launched in December 2003, the first Global Love Day celebration took place on May 1, 2004. Over the past seven years, Global Love Day has connected people in over 136 countries, in 35 languages. As Global Love Day continues to connect thousands of people and organizations around the world, we become more aware of the amazing people and associations actively working on behalf of their community, nation, even humanity as a whole to positively assist mankind and make our world a more inclusive loving place.
While there are dozens of community organized celebrations planned for Global Love Day 2010 in countries such as Russia, Iran, Nepal, the United States, India, Nigeria, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, and the Netherlands, there are many ways to celebrate at home. On The Love Foundations official website, they offer some individual ways to observe including: offering genuine forgiveness to yourself and others, letting go of outdated beliefs, meditating on love as a natural and boundless force already existing in your life, making amends with someone you have blocked from your life, hugging someone and letting yourself be hugged, smiling, and releasing the judgments you hold about life. They also suggest inviting your family friends, and neighbors to participate. Group activities can include sharing a meal, organizing a community celebration such as a parade, concert, block party, or candlelight celebration, reaching out to the less fortunate, and volunteering to teach someone to read.
In addition to the worldwide celebrations, Global Love Day also incorporates an art, essay and poetry invitational for children of all ages. The contest is free to enter and participants may submit one original piece in one or more of the categories. The objective of the invitational is to encourage children to think creatively about the Global Love Day theme. The Love Foundation Board of Director’s will choose one finalist from each category on May 1, 2010.
