Karen Armstrong: Revive The Golden Rule

Religious historian Karen Armstrong addresses the TED audience about reviving compassion among humanity by implementing the Golden Rule. She describes how all of the world's religions are built on a foundation of compassion and yet people decide to believe obscure doctrines that are the cause of much of the world's problems. Instead, we should learn to look within ourselves, discover what causes ourselves pain, and refuse to inflict that pain on anyone else. By choosing to show empathy for our neighbors and putting compassion into action, we can help dissolve stereotypes and work together towards building a global community of peace and harmony.

Mother Teresa, Gandhi, and The Dalai Lama would all agree that all the world needs is COMPASSION. Compassion is the joy of sharing. It's doing small things for the love of each other, such as, a smile or showing some simple kindness.

Wow! Another amazing video! I really enjoy TED and I thought I'd seen all the best ones but that clip was truly great. I really like what she said about people standing side by side looking at a goal, being friends, not having love eachother. The whole world could use a big goal setting workshop then??? Great video, THANKS!!!!

What I love about this video is that she speaks to the average person. She doesn't go into crazy detail about historic religion moments or passages. She talks about simple concepts like compassion and friendship, which we can all easily understand and apply in our everyday lives :)
