Karen Armstrong - Socratic Dialogue

Author, religious historian and founder of the Charter for Compasison, Karen Armstrong talks about the need to apply Socratic philosophy to overcome the counterproductive fierceness of modern debate. Armstrong explains that the problem in modern debate and dialogue is that we are not just searching for the truth, we are looking to humiliate and overcome our opponents as if truth were a competitive matter. In a Socratic dialogue, the conversation ends with both sides recognizing the inherent ignorance of mankind. It is only once you doubt your opinions that you can open up your mind and start your journey down the path of enlightenment.
