Monks Without Borders is a “nonprofit interfaith organization and international network of teachers, healers, activists, advocates, and peace loving people from all around the globe - including: monks, nuns, priests, rabbis, swamis, imams, and clergy members, from the world's religious traditions.” Based in Eugene, Oregon, Monks Without Borders promotes non-violent means of resolving cross-cultural and interreligious conflicts through various outlets including a free online Peace Ambassador Certification course for young adults, which is available through their website.
In their never-ending mission to build bridges of peace between cultures and religions through education and service, Monks Without Borders is adding one more tool to their interfaith toolbox this fall. Scheduled to launch on October 10, 2010 Monks Without Borders is proud to present the Museum of World Religions.
“The Museum of World Religions will give voice to the similarities of Religious traditions, the variety of Spiritual experience, and will place great emphasis upon the Golden Rule; providing an educational and inspiring place, with the space for visitors to understand the depth, complexity, and promise of global Interfaith cooperation,” as stated on the museum's official website.
Although the exact location of the museum has yet to be determined, it will be built on American soil. It will serve as a “national symbol of religious freedom and a forum for collaboration with educational and cultural institutions across the world.”
The Museum of World Religions will also provide various interfaith programs including “lectures, concerts, public discussion forums, demonstrations, dance, film screenings, media broadcasts, workshops, ongoing classes, and even interfaith seminary courses.”
Currently, Monks Without Borders is raising funds to finance the museum through donations and various other sources. In the meanwhile, a virtual online museum is available on their website which includes “high impact 3D graphics, videos, music, and more!” The virtual museum includes exhibitions on creation stories, sacred arts, afterlife realms, peace prayers, ancient prophecies, spiritual practices, and world music.
